2008 Fabulous Fords Forever Car Show PDF Print E-mail
Written by Greg Dodd
ImageApril the 23rd brought us the Annual Fabulous Fords Forever Car Show at Knott's Berry Farm, in sunny Buena Park, California. It was put together by the Western Region Ford Car Clubs. As always, there were plenty of Ford-Powered vehicles on display, from all years of production. This year, we celebrated the Centennial Anniversary of the car that started it all, the Model-T, as well as the 60th Anniversary of the F-Series Trucks, and the 40th Anniversary of the Ford Torino.

For the Mustang Enthusiasts, there are plenty of pristine examples on display, at this show. This year was no exception, with a record of over 1,100 “late model” (1987-Current) vehicles on display! Typically, about half of the cars are Mustangs.

As has been the case for the past few years, all of the SVT Mustang Cobras were on display in the Independence Hall/Picnic Area. This is a serene contrast to the parking lot that all other vehicles use. All of the Cobras were parked either in the grass surrounding this area, or on the large walk ways that run through it. This setting makes for a beautiful backdrop for these special cars. The “Cobra-R” and “Bullit” Model Mustangs also had dedicated displays in the infield area, with all 3 examples of each vehicle grouped together.

Image This is not to say that there weren’t plenty of fine examples of other Ford Powered Vehicles present. A couple of “Hollywood” Cars were on display. This year hosted both the “Knight Rider” Shelby Mustang Cobra, as well as my favorite, “Barricade”, the Decepticon Saleen Mustang Police Car that appeared in the 2007 Hit Transformers Motion Picture. Both of these vehicles were actual props that were used in the filming of these features.

Classic Ford Iron was well represented this year as well, with plenty of examples of everything from the aforementioned Model-T’s, to classic Thunderbirds. Additionally, there were several Panteras (an Italian-Built Mid-Engined exotic vehicle from the 80’s, powered by the Ford 350 Cleveland V8) on display, as well as several Sun Beam Tigers.

Shelby Vehicles, Roush Performance, Saleen Inc, and Ford Racing all had large displays with products and vehicles on display. Many local car clubs, and Ford Magazines had booths located in the infield area. 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords brought out their Project 1986 T-Top Coupe. Which featured 315/35ZR-17 Nitto 555R Extreme Drag Radials. 5.0 Super Fords proved cynics wrong, when there were able to mount these large tires (nearly 11” wide), on a “Fox-Era” Mustang, with minimal modifications required.

This is the first install that I’ve seen with a 315-tire mounted on a Fox ‘Stang, without rear “tubs” of any kind! And the install was extremely clean, almost factory. (Details of this rear wheel/tire combo install are found in the June 2008 Issue of 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords, which they were handing out, next to the project car.)

All-in-all, this year’s show was great, as always. I am looking forward to next years' show. If you are a Ford Fan, I would encourage you to attend, or participate in next years event. I hope to see you there!

I have for the past 4 years, attended and displayed my 2001 Mustang Convertible. It started out as a Mustang GT “Premium” (Bullit-Style wheels, Mach 460 sound system & leather interior) Convertible. Over the years, it has evolved. It has been converted into a Roush Stage 2 Clone. With a full Roush Stage 3 Suspension, all Roush Badging (with the exception of the serial number badge near the shifter), Roush Aerodynamics (Body Kit), Roush/Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust and of course Roush Leather Seats. The drive train is modified as well, with an Inter-cooled ProCharger Supercharger System, attached to an AFM Power Pipe on the intake. 42lb Injectors, SVT Focus (255lph) Fuel Pump, Bassani X-Pipe, an SCT BA2400 90mm Mass Air Meter. All this translates out to a 367.8bhp, 391.7ft lbs torque. All through a factory 4-Speed Automatic Transmission.

Next year, I hope to have my 1996 'Mystic' Cobra ready for the show. This will most likely be the first “demo” car, for Sonic Expressions (www.sonicxsound.com)
